Usry’s work is primarily inspired by the common phenomenon of daily life. He photographs and records (with video and sound) the world around him to accentuate otherwise ignored aspects. Much of what rings true to him is extracted from the patterns he finds in concrete expressions of our principles and ideals.

Reification, the process of making something concrete out of an abstraction, is a key concept in Usry’s work. Abstraction is also one of his principle concerns. He is also constantly in search of evidence to reinforce his sense of the world and life being as a physical rather than metaphysical place.
