free parking

free parking 1
Parking lots are essential to life in the the USA and probably every other industrialized country in the world. I recently read that car sales in China surpassed car sales in the US. One of my biggest concerns when I’m about to go somewhere is whether or not free parking is available. I wonder how many parking lots will be needed and how much of the planet’s surface will be covered by them as we continue buying and driving cars?

dummy 1

dummy 1
Dummy 1: Dummy is an ongoing photo essay about mannequins, dolls, toys and other human simulacra. I began photographing mannequins in 1998 in downtown Minneapolis. I was inspired by the seemingly endless variation of ourselves that we create for play, display and work. It is a project I intend to sustain indefinitely.

metal
Artworks Foundry 1 In May, 2009 I was given the privilege of photographing at Artworks Foundry in Berkeley, CA. It was a true trip for the senses. The primal roar of the furnace was a strong indicator of danger. It was of course an extremely warm space filled with powerful signs of our tenuous mastery over fire. Each time the red hot crucible was removed from the furnace all of my hairs stood on end. Foundry Metal - This gallery is focused on the metal used to cast the sculptures.

The 80:20 Program

the 80:20 program
My mother-in-law is responsible for the title of this collection. She says that women have to spend 80% of their time getting ready for the other 20%. In this gallery my wife is getting ready for work in the morning.
carcass

carcass
This gallery contains images of dead animals. It is not for the faint of heart. In the country of my birth dead animals were a common sight and even though I take no pleasure in from seeing gruesome images I am still captivated by the sight of a carcass or a dying animal. It reminds me of my own mortality.
